The Redemption of the Woman

5 July, 2026

John 4:1-26
Jesus’ encounter with the Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well should give us a sense of Deja Vu – haven’t we been here before – and a sense of Encore à voir – isn’t there still something yet to come? The sermon explores how this episode echoes earlier meetings in the Bible at wells leading to marriages, and how it also points to the ultimate marriage at the end of the Bible – the marriage of Jesus to his bride, the church. Just as the woman is transformed by living water, so too is Christ’s bride – sanctified and cleansed by the washing of the water of his word, ready to call others to come and take the water of life freely.
