John 3:16-21 – When The Times sent out a challenge in 1901 to write an article with the title, “What is Wrong With the World?”, G.K. Chesterton gave the following reply: “Dear Sir, In answer to your question ‘What is wrong with the world?’ I am. Yours, GK Chesterton.” The problem with the world is me, it is you, it is us – not just “them”. Jesus tells Nicodemus that all of us naturally love darkness and hate light, and that this is the real reason we naturally recoil from accepting his claims. Yet although though he says we are condemned, he also tells us that he came not to condemn us, but to save – to save individuals, and in fact to save the world itself.
