John 6:28-73 – In this passage, Jesus reveals himself as the true Bread from Heaven. Unlike manna, Jesus himself is the true bread from Heaven – living bread who gives eternal life. He uses startling language about eating his flesh and drinking his blood in order to show that his disciples must be committed to him wholeheartedly, and they must imbibe him through faith! Yet the passage also teaches that this faith comes from above. No one comes to Christ unless the Father draws them, not because the Father is capricious, but because man naturally rejects God and must be “dragged”. Those who feed on Christ should rejoice and invite others to come and join them in this joy.
