Radically Different Love

Series: One-Off Sermons

1 Corinthians 13 – This most famous of passages is one of the go-to texts for weddings. Yet far from being a wedding text, affirming love in some sentimental way, it is actually a stinging rebuke to the church at Corinth, and their failure to exercise true love to one another – as seen throughout the Epistle. So what, then, is love? True love, as defined biblically, is radically different than how love is presented in the modern world. It is neither sentimental, nor sin-affirming. Rather, it confronts sin but – unlike in the world – actually offers a way out: the supreme love of God in Christ, forgiving and pardoning us from our sins, so that we are then free to go and love others as God has shown his love to us.
