John 6:1-27 – In chapter 6 of his Gospel, John records two remarkable sign-miracles: Jesus feeding a multitude with five loaves and two fish, and Jesus walking upon a raging sea. Both signs echo Israel’s Exodus and reveal Jesus as far greater than Moses. He is the God-Man who provides the true bread from heaven, and who is himself that bread. He is also the Lord who treads upon the chaotic waters, demonstrating that the raging world has no power over him. Together, these signs point forward to Christ the bread of life, who alone can give eternal life, and Christ the conqueror, who will conquer the raging of this world and its nations, bringing all under his submission.
