Isaiah 52–53 reveals the very heart of the gospel: Christ bruised, wounded, and ultimately crucified for the sins of his people. Since this passage is so familiar, we often tend view it apart from the context of the Book of Isaiah as a whole. This sermon looks at that context, particularly the dire condition of Israel set out in chapter 1, asking how can a people ruined by sin and rebellion be restored and transformed? The answer is through their behaviour being mirrored in the treatment of the Suffering Servant, as Christ takes the judgement they deserve in order to bring forgiveness and restoration.
