Matthew 5:5 — In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus tells his hearers, “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.” Although one of the most well known verses in the entire Bible, in recent times the call to meekness has been turned into a synonym for weakness. But actually, meekness does not mean passivity at all. We could summarise it as ”strength under submission”. Christ gives us the perfect example of meekness in action, which we are to follow: submitting to God’s Word, remembering God’s mercy, and surrounding ourselves with companions who encourage meekness.
