Fatherhood is under severe cultural assault and urgently needs recovery according to a biblical vision. Beginning with a vision of where fatherhood should lead, the sermon looks at how true fatherhood is a reflection of the Fatherhood of God, which is loving, protective, generous, corrective, and deeply relational. We can distort this in one of two opposing ways – a legalistic distortion or a “grace-without-backbone” distortion – both of which have the tendency to provoke children to anger. Fathers must reflect the true fatherhood of God, which can only be done with Christ’s redeeming work and the Spirit’s transforming power, and so build strong relationships and multi-generational blessing.
