Luke 14:12-23: This sermon explores the Parable of the Great Banquet, which Jesus told in the house of one of the rulers of the Pharisees. It looks at the various excuses given by people who were invited to the banquet, and why they were wrong. And no, it wasn’t because they were unlawful or sinful. They were actually all related to perfectly legitimate things – ownership, occupation and marriage. Yet each one of them placed a higher emphasis on these things than the invitation to the banquet. Ultimately, this is a stark warning that God must come first if we are to sit down at the Marriage Supper of the Lamb.
