In this final Advent sermon for 2025, we look at the foretelling of the coming of God’s messengers in the prophecy of Malachi, and its fulfilment some 430 years later in the announcements by Gabriel to Zacharias and Mary in the first chapter of the Gospel of Luke. The new and ultimate exodus has come, with Yahweh himself coming to his temple. And this is why we feast, rejoice, and give gifts at Christmas. Not because of some commercialised Happy Holidays nonsense. But because the incarnate God is our feast, he is our rejoicing, is the unspeakable gift.
